Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash
Distance Between
(Ultimatum/Artemis)
T.J. Simon's #21 album for 2002
First Appeared at The Music Box, February 2003, Volume 10, #2
Written by T.J. Simon
Just about the only time you’ll hear the words San Diego
and honky tonk in the same sentence is when someone tells you about this great
country band known as Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash. Sporting more of a spiritual
lineage to the Man in Black than an actual one, the
Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash has released Distance
Between, the group's second damn fine album of new traditionalist country
songs about cars (1970 Monte Carlo), love (Last Goodbye), and
mysterious atmospheric conditions (Marfa Lights). Singer/songwriter Mark
Stuart is in boomingly good voice throughout this entire likable release. ˝
