David Gilmour: On an Island in Hollywood
A Photo Journal by Scott Lavery
First Appeared in The Music Box, May 2006, Volume 13, #5
Touring in support of On an Island, his first solo outing in more than two decades, David Gilmour settled into Hollywood's Kodak Theater on April 19 for a performance that mixed new material, fan favorites (Comfortably Numb, Wish You Were Here), and relative obscurities (Fat Old Sun, Arnold Layne). Though he was nearing the end of a U.S. tour that began several weeks earlier in New York City, Gilmour was in fine form, and the enthusiastic audience was rewarded not only with a stellar concert that was held in an intimate venue but also with special guest appearances by David Crosby and Graham Nash, who joined the legendary guitarist on The Blue and the title track from his latest effort as well as on Pink Floyd's Shine On You Crazy Diamond and Crosby, Stills & Nash's Find the Cost of Freedom. Fortunately, longtime Music Box supporter Scott Lavery was on hand to provide visual documentation of the once-in-a-lifetime experience.
