Ron Sexsmith is yet another reason to love Canada. His
latest album Cobblestone Runway is a lovesick and giddy homage to the
sounds of XTC and Paul McCartney. While his percussion is nearly all electronic,
the songs are human odes to wistfulness and love. Whether singing about the
inclusiveness of his Lord (God Loves Everyone) or the resiliency of the
human spirit (Former Glory), Sexsmith pulls it off with class and talent.
Simple acoustic guitars share time with fanciful violin and cello arrangements
on this ballad-heavy release, establishing Sexsmith as one of the most talented
young songwriters working today. File this album under "universal appeal" —
there’s something here for everyone to enjoy. ![]()
